Rectal Prolapse

Rectal prolapse is when tissue from “inside” comes outside the anus – this can include prolapse of haemorrhoids, which is very common, to full prolapse of the rectum itself which is much more serious.

Our nurse specialist and colorectal surgeons can evaluate your prolapse and direct best treatment. Often surgery is involved and there are a number of new procedures which are now available, offering a good result for haemorrhoids without excessive discomfort.

People with rectal prolapse often experience leakage of mucus and/or stool and corrective surgery to treat the prolapse leads to significant improvement in this. As with all pelvic floor conditions, a holistic optimisation of bowel and rectal function is also very important.

If you would like to see one of our specialised Brisbane physicians for your pelvic floor health, please book an appointment with us at the QLD Pelvic Floor Centre today.
