Dr Andrea Warwick is a colorectal surgeon and a specialist in functional disorders.
Andrea graduated from medical school in 2004. She spent 11 years undertaking surgical training in hospitals in the UK and in Australia. In 2012 Dr Warwick worked as a surgeon for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF – Doctors Without Borders) in South Sudan and has also undertaken humanitarian missions to Ghana.
Following the completion of her colorectal training in the UK in 2015, where she undertook several years training in bowel dysfunction, Andrea won a prestigious travelling fellowship from the European Society of Coloproctology and worked in world renowned pelvic floor units in Geneva, Switzerland and in Aarhus, Denmark. She undertook the fellowship of the European Board of Coloproctology by examination, and was awarded a prize from the Royal Society of Medicine, UK.
Andrea is a keen researcher and undertakes evidence based care with a focus on outcomes. She has written numerous peer reviewed publications and is on the editorial board for the journal “Colorectal Disease” and is a reviewer for “Diseases of the Colon and Rectum”. She is currently undertaking research in to many colorectal and pelvic floor topics both independently and as part of international multicentre trials. Andrea believes in using up to date research to guide individualised treatment. She has lectured and taught at multiple courses and scientific conventions on a wide range of colorectal and pelvic floor topics in Australia and internationally. She is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland and enjoys teaching and sharing her passion for improving the quality of life for people with these distressing conditions.
Andrea has been working as a specialist pelvic floor surgeon in Brisbane since 2015. She works publically at the Pelvic Floor Centre in QEII Hospital, Queensland’s only dedicated public pelvic floor centre, and at RBWH/ STARS. There she sees people with a wide range of symptoms, including faecal leakage, rectal prolapse, anal pain, and difficulty opening bowels. Andrea is a good listener, is caring and is highly experienced in the diagnosis and management of bowel dysfunction. She understands how many symptoms link to others and collaborates with colleagues to ensure the highest possible chance of treatment success. Whilst a highly competent technical surgeon, she understands the importance of holistic care and works with people to discuss tailored treatment options. She undertakes colonoscopy and operates privately at The Wesley Hospital, Auchenflower.
